Worldwide Wearables Market Shares, 2017: Apple Takes the Crown for Shipment Volume and Value
This IDC study examines the market share of the major vendors in the worldwide wearables market in 2017."The worldwide wearables market is in a state of transformation in 2017," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Wearables team. "The marketplace has become more sophisticated in its tastes and more comfortable with multifunction wearables like smartwatches. This will be a big opportunity for vendors up and down the spectrum to shift resources from basic wearables and to continue further development on smart wearables from where they are today.""The market for basic wearables is clearly not finished," adds Llamas. "For many, basic wearables present a 'good enough' value proposition, with a focused set of features and functionalities. It still brings less expensive devices to the market, which is still a necessary step for many first-timers buying their first wearable device. Furthermore, products that had smaller volumes — particularly clothing and earwear — posted market-beating growth. These and others signal continued opportunities for basic wearables going forward."
