This IDC study examines the performance of the server microprocessor market through several market views. Unit shipments and revenue by vendors are included as well as unit shipments by processor architecture, channel to customer, socket design capability, and system category. Processors designed for other system categories but consumed by servers are not covered in this study."Demand for server processors grew again in 4Q18 and to record levels for the year 2018," said Shane Rau, research vice president, Computing Semiconductors. "However, it's clear that cloud service providers have turned from procurement of capacity to utilization of that capacity and have paused their system refreshes, which means that 2019 will be a weaker year than 2018."
