Worldwide Server Installed Base Market Shares, 2016: A Transforming Vendor Landscape
This IDC study provides vendor market shares for the worldwide server installed base market for 2016. "The server market slowed in 2016, with the installed base remaining flat. Systemic pressures, including geopolitical uncertainly, supply chain stresses, and anticipation of the next generation of Intel chip architecture kept refreshes to a minimum," said Kuba Stolarski, research director, Computing Platforms at IDC. "Even some public cloud datacenter deployments were delayed until 2017. There are indications that overall levels of deployment and refresh may slow down even through the long term, as hyperscalers continue to evaluate their hardware provisioning criteria. On the enterprise side, we are seeing ongoing weakness, as companies struggle to decide whether to deploy workloads on-premises or off-premises and continue to consolidate existing workloads on fewer servers."
