Worldwide Messaging Security Market Shares, 2015: A Year in Flux

This IDC study presents the 2015 market share for the messaging security market. The total messaging market declined 5.0% from 2014 to 2015. The biggest determining factor for the decline was the currency fluctuations in 2015. The software portion of the messaging market declined 5.1% year over year in current currency but grew 2.3% in constant currency. This past year, there has been a lot of innovation in the messaging security market. Vendors are focused on new ways to block phishing, spear phishing, and ransomware attacks. Email is still one of the biggest attack vectors leading email security to be a basic security product. This has led to the constant update of vendors' base products and better protection for their clients. Vendors need to look at new ways to capitalize on these differentiators to gain traction in a more mature market."Currency made a huge impact in the total security market but also in the messaging security category," said Elizabeth Corr, research analyst, IDC's Security Products group, IDC.
