Worldwide Datacenter Installation Census and Construction Forecast, 2018–2022
This IDC study provides our annual summary of data from IDC's semiannual Worldwide and U.S. Datacenter Deployment Model data product. It provides a census of worldwide datacenters by size, sophistication, and ownership. It assesses the impact of changing industry business models as well as changing demand for systems of record, engagement, and insight on datacenter design, construction, and management. For larger organizations, the datacenter connotes the major, centralized, raised floor environment that houses the majority of IT systems. In service provider environments, datacenters are the "factories" for delivering new services to consumers and businesses. In today's world of cloud, mobile devices, and cognitive systems, effective datacenter planning and management are critical to business success. More details on spending associated with datacenter construction and datacenter design approaches can be found in the current Worldwide and U.S. Datacenter Deployment Model."Organizations around the world are talking about digital transformation and its implications for their people, their customers/constituents/patients, and their datacenters. The most fundamental objective of any transformation effort must be enabling your entire organization to achieve maximum insight and return from all the data it generates, accesses, manages, and shares, which calls for new thinking on datacenter locations and operations," says Richard Villars, research vice president, Datacenter and Cloud.
