Worldwide and U.S. Console Gamer Dynamics

This IDC study examines the results of two online surveys, fielded in 2Q14 in the United States and 1H15 internationally, that involved home console users and gamers. The data is mainly viewed from the perspective of the current and previous gen console families, though some general market conclusions are included. This study is partly designed to complement a pair of forthcoming global studies on console dynamics slated to be published this September, a new Market Forecast and a Market Share report.

"The console gaming ecosystem is always a dynamic environment, and it's clear that the digital transition is unfolding in several interesting dimensions simultaneously," says Lewis Ward, IDC's director of Gaming research, "It's nevertheless the case that disc sales continue to rule the roost and traditional home console OEMs have a massive lead over their would-be microconsole competitors in 2015."
