Western European Retailers' Business Focus in 2015
This IDC Retail Insights study assesses business initiatives for 2015 onward in the Western European retail industry. It discusses the key findings of the IDC European Vertical Market Survey, carried out in Western Europe among 200 retail companies with more than 10 employees.
"Retail is a low-margin industry. Nowadays, margins are under more pressure than ever because of competition from very different angles, market transparency, as well as consumers becoming increasingly demanding and less loyal. To respond to this situation and survive the industry shakeout, Western European merchants are being forced to improve their economic performance. In this respect, retail companies will devote most of their efforts to setting up and putting in place initiatives aimed at improving as much as possible their sales and revenues as well as reducing their costs, especially the operational ones, at the same time keeping an eye on security-related business issues," said Luca Bonacina, senior research analyst , IDC Retail Insights.
