Scooters, Bicycles, Mopeds, and … Your Legs: What's Happening with Micro-Mobility in European Cities

This IDC discusses micro-mobility vehicles (also called personal mobility devices or PMDs) and their impact on city living in Europe. PMDs such as bicycles, scooters, and mopeds are changing how people move in European cities. They can increase efficiency, environmental sustainability, and affordability of short trips. But challenges such as safety, urban space usage, equality of access, data sharing, and different physical and social realities must be addressed to take full advantage of their potential."Shared micro-mobility is the fancy new trend in cities globally. More mergers and acquisition, product and service innovation, and legal battles will take place in the next two years. However, e-mopeds, e-scooters, and e-bikes will be an integral part of future smart cities' people and goods mobility for the last 1 to 5 miles," said Massimiliano Claps, IDC Government Insights Research Director.
