SOASTA Targets Differentiated Cloud Testing, Digital Quality with Analytics
This IDC Vendor Profile is one in a series of IDC studies that examine automated software quality solutions and provides both vendor analysis and customer reference context for technology adoption. This Vendor Profile discusses the ASQ strategy of SOASTA, a vendor targeting the cloud testing arena with evolving performance testing services, mobile testing, broader digital quality, data analytics, and real user measurement (RUM) support. Akamai recently announced its intent to acquire SOASTA for a cash deal expected to close CY 2Q17. Here we discuss SOASTA's quality portfolio. SOASTA's depth and focused product capability and individualized customer support position it well for adoption by users interviewed by IDC. We present SOASTA relative to trends in user adoption for dynamic load testing for ASQ SaaS and cloud testing, mobile and digital quality, and enterprise ASQ adoption. We do so in the context of a worldwide economy and geopolitical circumstances that are volatile and unpredictable and that demand efficient access to software quality and deployment. We also include summaries of SOASTA customer references: a major farming product and lifestyle supply company, a leading laboratory researching animal health and other products, and a major apparel manufacturing company. The product farming company uses SOASTA's CloudTest load testing and depends on SOASTA to handle seasonal spikes in user access and transactions on its website, which is core to revenue generation for its business. This reference engaged with SOASTA in part due to the attentive, individualized service-level support it provided and its responsiveness to new product requirements. This reference felt that SOASTA's technology seemed both fresh and relevant, with a service-oriented architecture and specific functionality that could be packaged to meet its testing needs. The animal lab research company needed to transition to direct sales and support of its base of customers and prospects from a third-party provider. For competitive reasons, the company needed to represent the company's differentiated product offerings to veterinarians and others directly. But this transition involved quickly scaling to 10 times the production levels for which the system was originally designed. Using SOASTA, the company made this shift and went from completing 10 projects in 2015 to 33 projects in 2016 and moved from initial website and web load testing to doing all of its related performance testing using SOASTA. The apparel manufacturer was already using CloudTest successfully (with hundreds of thousands of concurrent virtual users hitting the site within a 30-second window) and brought in TouchTest to enable visibility into its mobile applications. All three references valued SOASTA's cloud delivery model, automated product capabilities, analytics, and customer support.
