Perspective: SAP Best Practices for Chemicals 2016 Review
This IDC Manufacturing Insights Perspective provides my impression of, and the key messaging delivered, at the second annual SAP Best Practices for Chemicals conference held March 2016 in Houston, Texas. The event is focused exclusively on the chemical industry, with sessions and messaging that covers all segments and functions of the chemical industry. The event was well attended, by several hundred senior executives, decision makers, business process owners, solution providers, and analysts, all from the chemical industry. Attendees had access to over 50 informational sessions across eight specialized tracks:Supply ChainTechnology-Driven ValueManufacturing and ComplianceData Analytics and ReportingCustomer CentricityProcurement and LogisticsFinance and AccountingMeeting Industry StandardsThe messaging across each of the tracks was focused specifically on best practices in the chemical industry relative to each track. In addition to the highly informative sessions available for the attendees, the event was very focused on enabling an environment for networking. There was a "showroom" where event sponsors and exhibitors had set up stations to discuss their offerings relative to SAP in the chemical industry. Due to the highly focused nature of the event, all the vendors had exceptional expertise and offerings specifically for the chemical industry. The sponsor list included several very large consulting firms as well as an abundance of more specialized consulting and application players. The format of the event was very much focused on enabling attendees to both learn through the sessions and share experiences and make industry connections.
