North America Document Imaging Scanner Market Shares, 2016: Multifunction Device and Mobile Capture Pressure Document Imaging Scanners

This IDC study presents North America 2016 document imaging scanner shipments and market shares. Data for this study was assimilated with Worldwide Document Imaging Scanner Forecast, 2017–2021 (IDC #US42527617, May 2017). That study showed that worldwide shipments declined to 2.44 million units in 2016, posting a year-over-year decline of 8%. North America led all other regions in unit shipments decline (recording 16%), driven by declining demand for mobile and personal workgroup scanners, with year-to-year growth of -27% and -16%, respectively. Western Europe 2016 shipments also experienced a year-to-year decline of 2%, with total shipments of 1.32 million units. Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa also contributed to the global decline, with distributed scanner shipments declining in these regions. Shipment growth was achieved in Latin America and Asia/Pacific."Demand for document imaging scanners continues to decline as the volume of documents scanned remains somewhat consistent. The availability of multiple scanning technologies such as multifunction devices and mobile devices with cameras is modifying where documents are scanned, shifting scan volume away from the traditional scanners." — Ron Glaz, research director, Document Solutions
