This IDC study presents the North America (NA) document imaging scanner shipments and market shares for 2015. According to Worldwide Document Imaging Scanner Forecast, 2016–2020 (IDC #US40649016, May 2016), the worldwide shipments declined to 2.57 million units in 2015, posting a year-over-year decline of 3.5%. The United States was a major contributor to the decline as demand for both distributor and production scanners experienced declines, producing a decline rate of 6% for the 2014–2015 period, with total shipments of 1.32 million units. Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa also contributed to the global decline, with distributed scanner shipments declining in these regions. Shipment growth concentrated on emerging regions, with Latin America total shipments growing at 1% for 2014–2015 and Asia/Pacific growing at 4% for the same period."Demand for document imaging scanners is declining. As the market continues to commoditize, we are seeing demand shifting away from the traditional scanner vendors to vendors that provide similar products at lower prices." — Ron Glaz, director of Document Solutions
