This IDC study presents the performance of the Japan small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT market in 2016 and market forecasts for 2017–2021 by region and prefecture, based on the latest economic situation and product information gathered from vendor surveys up to April 2017. In 2017, the Japan SMB IT market is expected to register positive growth. While growth in , Tokai, and Kinki regions are expected to expand steadily, other regions will experience low growth rates. Similarly, polarization in IT spending is expected to proceed in metropolitan areas (, Tokai, and Kinki regions) and other regions from 2018 onward. "In order to increase SMB IT spending in regions outside metropolitan areas, it would be effective for IT suppliers to actively propose solutions to help SMBs recognize the benefits such as business support intuitively," said Hitoshi Ichimura, research manager, IT Spending, IDC Japan.
