Japan IT Security Products Market Shares, 2016: External Threat Measures and Internal Threat Measures Market
This IDC study presents the Japan IT security products market vendor shares in 2016. The market is divided into external threat analysis and protection products market that includes endpoint security, messaging security, web security, and network security; and the internal threat analysis and protection products market that includes identity and access management, and security and vulnerability management. Security protection in user companies must be measures that comply with laws and industry regulations rather than just providing protection from cyberattacks. There are laws and regulations in Japan called Basic Cybersecurity Act, Amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act, and My Number Law that stems from My Number System. The Amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act was fully enforced on May 30, 2017. The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation that is scheduled to be enforced on May 25, 2018 will impose a large amount of penalty on companies depending on the handling of the EU resident data if it is regarded as a violation of laws and regulations even if the corporate activities took place outside of the EU. Accordingly, it is growing more difficult for the IT system department alone to determine whether security measures implemented in or planned for IT systems in a hybrid environment in which on-premise environment exists together with cloud environment comply with laws and industry regulations."Security vendors should strive to establish communications about security measures with user companies' legal department and external legal experts. This effort will increase user companies' confidence about security solutions, which will lead to implementation," said Tsuneo Tosaka, research manager, Software and Security, IDC Japan.
