Japan Networks Market Shares, 2017: Wireless First to Become Strong
This IDC study is a report provides an analysis of the 2017 vendor share and vendor trends in the whole of the Japan network equipment market; and in each product segment that includes Ethernet switches, routers, WLAN equipment, and in the enterprise and carrier segments. In 2017, although the carrier market continued to be in the slump, the enterprise network equipment market, mainly WLAN, performed better than in the previous year, and this led to the growth in the overall network equipment market. Cisco Systems occupied nearly half the market share in the overall network equipment market. Its market shares in the router, Ethernet switch, and WLAN product segments were all at around 50%. In contrast, vendors in the second and subsequent positions faced tough competition. With share points being only 1 percentage point apart from one another, seven vendors fought closely for market shares. "In order to pull away from the closely fought competition, vendors should maintain a diversified product portfolio and strengthen their product lineup based on "wireless first." They should focus most on the WLAN equipment market when setting up their network equipment portfolio," says Kenichi Kusano, group manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
