Japan Datacenter Power Capacity Analysis 2016
This IDC study reports estimates and analyzes the capacity of Japan datacenters (commercial datacenters and enterprise datacenters) based on power supply. Moreover, it estimates Japan datacenters (DCs) power capacity (IT load) as of the end of 2016 and forecasts the capacity in 2020. Power usage is estimated by dividing power consumption by power capacity. The result shows that while power usage in DCs with new facilities is high, power usage in DCs with older buildings is low because ICT equipment operated in these DCs is decreasing. "This decreasing power usage issue in old DCs means that these DCs have excess capacity. Thus, it is essential to examine the optimum DC capacity allocation and take the initiatives to solve this issue by eliminating unnecessary facilities," says Mimei Ito, IT services research manager, IDC Japan.
