Japan CSP Networks Market Shares, 2015: Carrier Router/Ethernet Switch
This IDC study provides an analysis of vendor shares and vendor trends for 2015 for the market as a whole and for each product segment, which consists of routers and Ethernet switches, for the network equipment market for communication service providers (CSPs) such as telecommunications carriers. The end of deployment of Long Term Evolution (LTE) service and stronger restrictions on spending by telecommunications carriers have caused a significant fall in the Japan CSP network equipment market in 2015. Looking at the Japanese CSP network equipment market as a whole, Cisco Systems and Alaxala Networks registered relatively steady growth even in such a stringent market environment. Meanwhile, shares for Ethernet switch-focused vendors that boasted high sales until 2014 had now fallen in step with the shift to restricted investment in the market. IDC Japan Communications Group Manager Kenichi Kusano argues that, "Although vendors expect CSP capital investment in anticipation of the start of 5G services in 2020, the questions of what they will do to sustain their businesses until the next period of high demand comes around, and how to move forward toward 2020 in terms of research and development are big issues facing CSP network equipment vendors. Rather than fearing the impacts on the existing business, vendors should be taking on the challenge of proactively changing directions in a new competitive arena."
