Japan CSP Networks Forecast, 2016−2020: Carrier Router/Ethernet Switch
This IDC study, provides a 2016–2020 forecast for the Japan communication service provider (CSP) network equipment market — with an emphasis on telecommunications carriers — as well as an outlook for the market. The CSP network equipment market is influenced by the network infrastructure strategies of CSPs and the capital spending that they make. Broadly speaking, demand in this market can be classified as either demand for expanding, strengthening, or upgrading existing services and networks, or demand for new services and for the new implementation of networks for providing new services. In IDC's forecast for new demand through 2020, the launching of 5G services will be the greatest market opportunity. Expectations by vendors are also on the rise. However, the extent of large-scale spending by Japan CSPs will remain unclear until the launch of 5G services, making this a challenging time for vendors. IDC Japan Communications Group Manager Kenichi Kusano argues: "The next few years will be an extremely crucial era. Vendors serving CSPs should quickly formulate and execute strategies for succeeding in 2020. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the ways in which vendors formulate business strategies and the ways in which they develop products based on those strategies in the years between now and the target year for launching fixed-line services and other next-generation networks of 2020 will determine whether they will succeed in the Japan CSP network equipment market of the 2020s."
