Japan CIO Survey 2015: Spending Trend of IT Services and Outsourcing
This IDC study analyzes the results of a questionnaire-based survey conducted by IDC among CIOs of user companies in April 2015, entitled Japan CIO Survey 2015. It then summarizes trends related to IT investment, outsourcing service deployment, and IT service vendor selection.According to the survey, although many Japan companies did not intend to change their IT investment in FY14, the number of "increase" responses exceeded that of "decrease" responses. This trend is expected to be more prominent in the IT investment plans for FY15. IDC believes that the Japan IT services market will continue positive growth in and beyond 2015. However, the growth rate will gradually decrease. IT service vendors should capitalize on the trend of active investments on security measures and commit fully to enhance security solutions. In addition, they should possess the creativity to innovate systems that will maximize profits based on the 3rd Platfor", including the development of business models as well as IT systems. Meanwhile, as many CIOs do not have IT background or lack experience and knowledge, they are unable to give opinions regarding IT even though they have business knowledge. On the other hand, there are also CIOs who come from IS departments and have extensive knowledge on IT but do not know about business. The same situation may also happen in the IS or user departments. "In order for the entire company to digitalize business, somebody needs to bridge the gap between various positions in the company including CIO. IT service vendors should get involved in user companies as this role by being well-versed in both IT and business," says Seiichiro Yoshii, senior market analyst, IT Services, IDC Japan.
