Internet of Things in People's Republic of China Agriculture
The People's Republic of China (PRC) is entering an exciting period in its agricultural transformation with the introduction of internet of things (IoT) processes, solutions, and data acquisition, made possible by the PRC's excellent coverage of mobile network operators (MNOs) and their investment in Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) basestation and packet core software upgrades combined with a growing module supplier ecosystem, strong artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics, and cloud back-end services. "The PRC is quickly becoming a global leader in the application of NB-IoT to the agriculture sector with a healthy ecosystem of module suppliers, analytics and AI software companies, and agriculture platform and sensor solution integrators," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific. He further adds, "Although in the first few years, each solutions provider will develop its own platform to aggregate and collect agriculture data over time through acquisitions and consolidation, cloud services will emerge to offer virtualized platform services for agriculture."
