IDC's Worldwide Private Cloud Taxonomy, 2018
This IDC study provides a detailed description of IDC's worldwide private cloud market taxonomy. Enterprise private clouds remain critical parts of most IT organizations' datacenter modernization plans, especially for those that may be considering the movement of some existing workloads as well as components of new composite workloads off public cloud IaaS. A new generation of private cloud built on a standard hardware (e.g., hyperconverged) platform and a software-defined foundation are enabling delivery of new cloud-based services to local communities of users/things in local rather to centralized internal datacenters. These new private cloud solutions will be offered increasingly via consumption/subscription-based as-a-service models that enable rapid deployment and expansion, continuous enhancement, and a dramatic reduction in the time/effort required for patches, upgrades, or migrations."Greater consistency in packaging, cloud integration, and consumption models will make private clouds a critical component in organizations' efforts to extend digital transformation to the edge of the business." — Richard Villars, vice president, Datacenter and Cloud, IDC
