"Mixed virtual workload consolidation is the competitive battleground for AFA vendors in 2015 and beyond, and these systems must provide familiar enterprise storage features to meet that requirement: support for snapshots, clones, encryption, replication, quality of service, and the APIs necessary to integrate easily into preexisting datacenter workflows," says Eric Burgener, research director, Storage at IDC. "Flash deployment at scale will allow enterprises to reap not only the performance benefits of flash but the secondary economic benefits as well: fewer devices required to meet storage performance requirements, reduced energy and floor space consumption, fewer servers needed to drive storage performance, and lower software licensing costs."
