IDC PeerScape: Practices for IT Organizational Transformation Strategies

This IDC study describes practices that can help CIOs ensure their success in developing strategies to transform IT organizations in support of enterprise digital transformation (DX). The promise of digital transformation can sometimes obscure the potential challenges in bringing about substantive change in IT organizations. IT organizations are complex systems made up of people, processes, work practices, culture, leadership, and other components that interact in myriad forms. Changes in any of the components often have impacts on others — sometimes unforeseen and potentially harmful. "CIOs seeking to transform their organizations need to avail themselves of good advice and information from those that have already succeeded in IT transformation," says Marc Strohlein, adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Program (IEP). "This study identifies some key characteristics of 'DX-ready' IT organizations and then describes five best practices used by CIOs to help drive success in their organizational transformation strategies."
