GitHub Universe 2019 — A Growing Platform and Community Connected by Code

This IDC Market Note focuses on some of the business undertakings at GitHub since the acquisition by Microsoft in 2018 as well as some of the key announcements. A year after the Microsoft acquisition, GitHub has made good progress toward expanding the capabilities of the GitHub platform and this was evident by the announcements that came out of the GitHub Universe 2019 conference. Like several vendors whose initial solution performed a single role in the DevOps pipeline, GitHub is increasing its relevance and appeal to the enterprise through acquisitions and internal development. The new features highlighted during the GitHub Universe 2019 conference allow the company to play a larger role in the overall DevOps pipeline and improve its competitive position in the marketplace. The most notable announcements coming out of the conference were GitHub Actions going GA, new security features and the GitHub Security Lab, the GitHub Sponsors program achieving GA, and the new GitHub mobile offering.
