Faster Than It looks: How Innovation Accelerators Impact Datacenters in Europe from Now to 2020
This IDC study includes initial high-level observations on the impact of innovation accelerators, such as robotics and cognitive systems, on the datacenter landscape in Europe. By 2019, $1 of every $4 spent on server and storage systems in Western Europe will end up powering innovation-acceleration workloads such as robotics, machine learning, and IoT. With the push to growth will come unprecedented disruption to the supplier landscape. Existing processes around facility and IT maintenance, patching, and capacity planning will be augmented and reshaped by cognitive software."The datacenter as we know it will end earlier than expected. We recommend IT decision makers to start looking at how they can support complex workloads such as IoT or virtual reality by combining cloud and on-premise resources. At the same time, European companies should begin to embed assessments on cognitive systems and next-generation security in their datacenter supplier selection as well as experiment with those tools to bring their processes into the future," said Giorgio Nebuloni, associate research director, IDC European Infrastructure group.
