Consumerization of Development

Consumerization of Development

This IDC study examines a group of emerging cloud middleware services that consumers use to automate how they do their jobs by creating workflows and developing their own mobile and PC apps. Similar to other technology areas where end users began incorporating digital change into work from their experience as consumers, development will be the next area of consumer-driven change. This heralds a new tier of development that enterprises must monitor and learn how to embrace.

"By 2017, 75% of IT organizations will be confronted with the impact of consumerization of development," according to Maureen Fleming, vice president of BPM and Middleware research programs. "By 2017, we expect 25% of large enterprises will formally support a consumer tier at some level that will allow workers to develop their own personal automation and deliver experimental digital services of their own design."
