Canadian ICT Competitive Activity Update: 4Q15

This IDC update provides Canadian ICT executives with a review of notable corporate announcements, recent market entrants, new alliances, and new service offerings from the recent research period and discusses implications that may affect the Canadian ICT industry moving forward.Highlights from this update include:Corporate announcements. The last quarter of the year saw a number of vendors looking for strategic alternatives for their business — Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) sold its Allstream division to Zayo Group Holdings, Lexmark is looking to its strategic options, and HP finalized its split into two separate organizations. But it is Citrix's divestiture of the company's GoTo business that is this quarter's reorg highlight.Organizational changes. HP has just completed arguably the most significant transformation in the history of the Fortune 50 — with nearly flawless execution. As HP closes this chapter, it begins a journey as two individual but related companies focused on meeting the information technology (IT) needs of enterprises and individuals. New acquisitions and partnerships. Seldom does a megamerger or acquisition have a ripple effect across the entire ICT market spectrum. But when it does, the impact goes deep — and often leaves indelible marks on the industry. While important to Canada, the WIND Mobile acquisition by Shaw Communications more than just pales in comparison with the immediate, short-, and long-term implications of the biggest tech deal in history — that between Dell and EMC.New solution offerings. The last quarter of the calendar year saw a large number of new offerings across the entire ICT spectrum. Most of the announcements were focused on the 3rd Platform and mostly designed to focus on a vendor's shift to the cloud. Rackspace's recent partnership with one of the company's biggest competitors highlights the increasingly complex competitive landscape and the creativity needed by vendors to succeed in this rapidly changing paradigm.IDC compiles the Canadian ICT Competitive Activity Update from daily press releases, financial reports, publications, and professional insight.
