Business Strategy: A Major Restructuring of Payers' and Providers' Portfolios of Healthcare IT Service Vendors on Horizon
This IDC Health Insights report explains how the healthcare IT services industry is entering a period of significant transition and significant consolidation in the medium term. The overall pie of IT services spending by payers and providers will not be shrinking, but it will be cut very differently, in favor of the more adaptive service vendors that can leverage analytics under risk-based contracts over larger client bases. As payers and providers enter a post-reform environment, they are focusing less on compliance and regulatory mandates and more on cost control, particularly in regard to their IT service providers. "The buyers of IT consulting, systems integration, and outsourcing services will reduce portfolios of IT service vendors," says Sven Lohse, research manager at IDC Health Insights, "and they will manage those IT service vendors that remain more professionally and more economically."
