Business Strategy: Are European Shoppers Suffering from "Privacy Anxiety"?

This IDC Retail Insights study assesses the perception of European customers regarding privacy issues when shopping in stores. It discusses the key findings of the IDC Retail Insights European Consumer Survey, 2015 carried out among 7,071 shoppers in 2015.

"The effective use of in-store WiFi networks provides the opportunity for true competitive differentiation with a retailer's most highly valued customers, as it is a way to enhance the overall shopping experience. Retailers are increasingly deploying WiFi networks, although they are still limited to flagship stores. By doing so, merchants will be able to collect more granular data around consumer shopping behavior and deliver targeted and personalized promotions to their clients. With data privacy anxiety not affecting many European shoppers yet, there is a good future outlook for all of these sets of interactive in-store technologies," said Luca Bonacina, senior research analyst, IDC Retail Insights.
