Assessing the First Wave of Augmented and Virtual Reality Gaming Opportunities
This IDC study uses a recent survey of over 5,600 video game players in the United States to assess their interest in purchasing augmented reality (AR) and/or virtual reality (VR) headsets in the next 12 months and examines some of the games they'd most like to play on these devices. The demographics of such buyers are also considered."The good news is that devices like Oculus, PlayStation VR, Vive, and potentially HoloLens have the attention of hardcore gamers in particular in the United States," says Lewis Ward, IDC's director of Gaming research. "The bad news is that most of the associated games in the pipeline aren't the titles that these gamers are clamoring to play. There's going to have to be some deft marketing work done in the coming months to grease the skids and promote substantive hardware sales in 2016."
