Asia/Pacific Greater China Carrier Equipment Spending Analysis 2016–2018 and Forecast 2019–2023
This study analyzes the network equipment spending capex and total CAPEX, including nonequipment structures and facilities, in the region in both fixed-line and mobile networks. "As the region prepares for the introduction of 5G services starting in 2020, all integrated and mobile operators in the region have begun the process of migrating their network architecture to a cloud-native service architecture, which will become the foundation of future mobility. Hong Kong is expected to be the first in the region to deploy outdoor mmWave, having initially assigned 1200MHz in the 28GHz band for capacity/mobility in combination with the C band, which is expected to be auctioned later in 2019. The PRC operators will focus initially on utilizing 560MHz in the 2.6GHz, 3.3–3.6GHz, and 4.8–5.0GHz bands, which the PRC regulator has already assigned. The region is expected to take a cautious approach to developing new business models for 5G services as the initial priority is to lay the cloud-native infrastructure foundations in place," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
