Wood Panelling Manufacturing in Canada
Over the five years to 2017, industry revenue is expected to grow, likely due in part to notably strong growth in Canadian housing starts. Over the five years to 2022, industry revenue is projected to increase at a slower rate. Demand from Canadian construction markets is expected to be far lower than in previous years, as rising interest rates and overbuilding in recent years will cool domestic residential construction markets. To counteract tepid domestic demand and drive growth, continued construction growth in the United States, the industry's largest market, will mean continued growth in demand for industry products. However, over the next five years the Canadian dollar is expected to slowly gain strength compared with the US dollar, making industry products relatively more expensive for US buyers, tempering export growth.
The industry manufactures veneer or plywood, engineered wood or reconstituted wood products. The industry does not include companies that primarily engage in sawmilling or wood preservation, nor does it include companies that primarily produce dimensions stock.
