Transmission Line Construction in the US
The Transmission Line Construction industry has performed well over the five years to 2018, driven by an expansion in demand from private electric power companies, which is by far the industry's largest market. As the US economy has grown over the past five years, so has demand for electricity, especially from the energy-intensive manufacturing sector. Further, the movement away from coal and toward natural gas and renewable electricity generation has created a high-growth market for industry operators as many electricity providers have had to repurpose their plants to use gas-fired generation. Moving forward, demand from private electric power customers will expand as economic growth increases electricity demand. Additionally, as power generation is increasingly shifted from coal to natural gas, requiring substantial infrastructure investment, the industry is anticipated to benefit.
Operators in this industry provide construction, repair, rehabilitation and maintenance work for a variety of forms of electric power and telecommunications infrastructure, including power lines, power plants, radio and television towers and cable infrastructure. Industry operators, however, do not perform construction work on hydroelectric power stations, the construction of broadcast studios or electrical maintenance work within buildings.
