ndustry performance is highly reliant on cyclical conditions as consumers and businesses invest in new properties during upswings in economic conditions. Consequently, the collapse of the US property market and recession tore through the industry and created extremely turbulent conditions for industry operators. Demand for residential and nonresidential real estate plummeted and profit margins sunk across the industry as a whole. However, the past five years have exhibited recovery, as rising per capita disposable income and expanding corporate budgets prompted the value of construction to rise. Consequently, franchise brokers and agents have experienced stronger conditions as real estate markets improve. Industry revenue is projected to grow over the five years to 2014. Over the next five years, industry growth is expected to remain strong as construction activity trends upwards because of rising corporate profit and per capita disposable income.
Real estate agency franchises receive branding, marketing, administrative support, training and other services for franchise, royalty and renewal fees to the franchisor. Industry firms are limited to real estate agency companies that operate as a franchise and exclude other operations.
