Major Household Appliance Manufacturing in the US
The Major Household Appliance Manufacturing industry is highly globalized, with several large domestic and foreign companies. Over the five years to 2019, growth in underlying demand from a growing housing market and disposable income growth have facilitated steady revenue growth. However, the appreciation of the US dollar during the current period has led to a decline in export sales and rising import penetration. Nevertheless, the growth in disposable income and the expansion of the housing market have mitigated the negative effects associated with the appreciation of the dollar. Over the five years to 2024, IBISWorld anticipates that the slower growth of the US housing market and rising household debt will lead to reduced demand for industry products. Additionally, growth in input costs is expected to decrease profitability slightly. At the same time, recently imposed tariffs on washing machines and a variety of other imported goods will likely provide a level of relief to operators.
This industry includes companies that manufacture major household cooking appliances, refrigerators and home freezers, household laundry equipment and other major electrical and nonelectrical household appliances such as dishwashers, garbage disposal units, water heaters and trash compactors. Small cooking appliances (e.g. hot plates), fans, vacuums and electric irons are not included in this industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
