As patients are treated faster and more effectively, with lower rates of readmission and shorter hospital stays, less hospital beds are needed. Patients are also starting to be treated in their own homes, rather than in hospitals, further reducing demand for industry products. However, new technologies have helped buffer decreased demand. Over the five years to 2023, industry revenue is forecast to rebound slightly as federal funding for Medicare and Medicaid increases.
