As disposable income levels began to recover at the beginning of the five-year period, consumers began spending on discretionary items again, helping drive demand for value, premium and super-premium spirit brands. Moreover, revenue grew at a double-digit rate, partly due to a strengthening economy and pent-up demand from the recession. This industry consists of distilleries that purchase a range of ingredients, such as grains and sugar, and manufacture them into spirits. These spirits are bottled and sold to liquor wholesalers, bars, casinos, restaurants, hotels and other licensed retailers. This industry does not include manufacturers of beer and wine.
