Furniture Repair & Reupholstery in the US

The Furniture Repair and Reupholstery industry has fought tough conditions over the past five years, even as overall economic conditions continue to improve. A growing influx of lower-cost furniture items from countries such as China and Vietnam has driven down the price of new furniture, making replacing furniture a more attractive option for consumers rather than repairing it. While industry revenue climbed in 2012 through 2014 as disposable income returned to healthier levels, this growth was merely a modest bounce back from huge losses suffered during the recession, and is not indicative of a reversal in the industry's general decay. In the five years to 2021, the industry is expected to continue declining as individuals increasingly opt to purchase new furniture instead of repairing it, making long-term demand for the industry to be patchy at best. Lower-priced furniture, especially from low-cost manufacturing countries, will continue to lure customers away from repair services.

This industry is involved in reupholstering, refinishing, repairing and restoring furniture. Participants offer on-site and in-store furniture reupholstery and repair services. Automotive vehicle upholstery repair services and the restoration of museum pieces are not included in this industry.

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
