Frozen Pizza Production
The Frozen Pizza Production industry has contended with challenging operating conditions as rising competition from pizzerias, changing consumer tastes and rising health consciousness have gradually reduced demand for processed or frozen foods. Furthermore, rising disposable income levels enabled more consumers to order takeout or delivery from pizzerias, which further reduced demand for frozen, store-bought pizzas. In response, operators have reformulated existing products to reduce excess sodium and preservatives, while introducing new pizza varieties made with organic or all-natural ingredients. As demand for frozen pizza has renewed, price-based competition from private label products and fresh-baked pizza producers has intensified. However, falling input costs have increased profit margins. In particular, the price of key inputs such as wheat flour and milk (for cheese) have all fallen over the past five years. Over the five years to 2024, the industry is expected to continue to grow as operators continue to focus on developing premium pizza varieties that appeal to a wider range of health-conscious consumers.
This industry produces pizzas, which are then frozen, packaged, and distributed to downstream markets including grocery wholesalers, supermarkets and other retailers. This industry excludes refrigerated pizzas.
