Explosives Manufacturing in the US
The Explosives Manufacturing industry is a small but important part of the chemicals sector. Coal mining operations make up the largest mining-related market for explosives manufacturers. As demand for coal declined steadily between 2013 and 2016, coal industries needed fewer explosives to mine. Additionally, industry exports decreased over the five years to 2019 as the result of an appreciating US dollar. However, demand for explosives from construction industries has increased over the five years to 2019 as macroeconomic growth and accommodative monetary policy have led construction activity to increase. Industry revenue is expected to increase over the five years to 2024.
Operators in this industry manufacture explosives, blasting agents and oxidizers. Industry manufacturers may also be involved in the production of blasting accessories such as blasting and detonating caps, fuses and cords. This industry does not manufacture pyrotechnics, ammunition, ammunition detonators or percussion caps.
