Over the five years to 2018, the Breweries industry has benefited from consumers' increasing interest in craft-style beers made from local microbreweries. Over the past five years, the industry experienced moderate revenue volatility, as changing consumer preferences led to a shift toward higher-quality beer brands and new styles of beer, rather than the industry's standard premium offerings. While this has stimulated growth among the industry's craft breweries, it has come at the expense of the industry's largest, most well-known international breweries. Over the five years to 2023, the industry is anticipated to experience steady revenue gains. However, it is expected to attract a smaller share of consumers' demand for alcoholic beverages over the next five years, as consumers continue to diversify their alcoholic beverage consumption across all ranges of beers, wines and liquors.
The Breweries industry primarily produces alcoholic beverages made from malted barley and hops such as beer, malt liquor and nonalcoholic beer. This industry excludes wine, brandy, cider and distilled beverages such as vodka and rum. Bottling purchased malt beverages and manufacturing purchased malt are also excluded from this industry.
