Book Publishing in the US
Over the past five years, the Book Publishing industry has stagnated, with revenue declining marginally. Although education and scholarly markets have achieved healthy growth, it has been largely offset by losses in the trade market. This has been true particularly in the industry's e-book segment, where sales have faltered in recent years after initially surging as the technology entered the mainstream. Over the five years to 2024, the industry will continue to largely stagnate. E-book sales are anticipated to rebound, but will continue to generate less revenue per unit. Meanwhile, the education market is likely to experience some of the digitization that has proved a headwind for trade publishers.
The Book Publishing industry edits and designs books. Book publishers also engage in marketing activities and make distribution agreements with operators in the Book, Magazine and Newspaper Wholesaling industry (IBISWorld report 42492). The industry does not include authors, who are part of the Performers and Creative Artists industry (71151).
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
