Ambulatory Surgery Centers
The Ambulatory Surgery Centers industry includes establishments that provide surgical and emergency care services on an outpatient basis. Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) offer improved patient quality and care, while also cutting healthcare costs. Due to some hospitals contending with scheduling delays, limited operating room capacities, budgetary issues and inefficient operating room turnovers, ASCs provided a cost-effective alternative. Over the five years to 2022, industry revenue is forecast to grow. Healthcare reform is expected to have a negligible effect on the industry, due to ASCs needing to submit quality and cost data to secure Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
This industry provides surgical services such as orthoscopic and cataract surgery. Industry operators also provide emergency care services, including setting broken bones, treating lacerations and tending to patients who have suffered injuries, due to accidents or trauma. Services are provided on an outpatient basis and operators are required to have specialized facilities, such as operating and recovery rooms, as well as pertinent equipment (i.e. anesthesia and X-ray machines).
