Activated Carbon Manufacturing
Over the five years to 2018, a rise in the industrial production index, combined with the rising price of industry products and a mounting focus on environmental protection, supported industry performance. One of the most significant changes for the industry during the five-year period was the establishment of new emission standards for power plants and a range of other industrial facilities. To comply with these regulatory changes, power plants adopted industry products to limit emissions. However, industry revenue is expected to decline over the five years to 2018, despite an increase in 2018 alone. Conversely, industry revenue is expected to rise over the five years to 2023 due to anticipated increases in industry exports and industrial production.
Companies in this industry manufacture activated carbon, which is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous; thus, activated carbon has a very large surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions. Activated carbon is produced from carbonaceous source materials, such as nutshells, peat, wood, coir, lignite, coal and petroleum pitch and is used for a range of purposes, including gas purification and water purification.
