The HIDA Acute Care Surgical Volume-Weighted Utilization Index reveals slight expansion in Q3 2016.
The Index is down 7.1 points from Q2 2016.
The decline is driven by lower reported admissions, and negligible change in average length of stay.
All regions report slight to moderate expansion in Q3. The west coast regions report lower expansion than others. Three of six regions report lower index values than those reported in Q2, signifying slowed growth.
Larger facilities tend to fare better overall; however, from Q2 to Q3 2016 these facilities saw a 20 point index drop.
