Total fuel consumption in Russia increased by 3.5% in 2016 compared to the previous year. Volume sales of both petrol and diesel increased in 2016 by approximately 3.5%. Petrol prices continued to decline in 2016, the price of petrol fell by 1.0%, however diesel prices increased by 34.9%. The value of fuel sales has increased for the first time since 2012, but it broke this trend in 2016 rising by 15.6%.

Total number of service stations in Russia increased to about 27,723 sites in 2016. Rosneft has the largest service station network, amounting to 9.7% of the national network. In 2016, four of the top five fuel retailers, expanded their service station networks. The top five fuel retailers - LUKOIL, Rosneft, Gazprom, Tatneft OJSC and Bashneft accounted for 27.1% of service stations in Russia in 2016.

As of 2016, only 20.4% of service stations in Russia featured a shop. The total number of service stations with a shop increased 9.8% in 2016. The top five fuel retailers in Russia accounted for 93.8% of the number of service station shops in the country. Rosneft is the leading player in the service station shop market.

2.1% of service stations in Russia feature a car wash. The total number of service stations with a car washes in Russia increased by 8.3%. Rosneft has the largest number of service stations with a car wash in the country, amounting to 34.1% of the national network. Of the top five players, Surgutneftegaz was the only retailer not to increase its number of sites with a car wash in its network in 2016.
