The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is responsible for the supervision and regulation of the insurance industry in Serbia. The Insurance Law 2014 stipulates the rules and regulations governing insurance and reinsurance operations in Serbia. The government of Serbia enacted the Insurance Law 2014 on December 18, 2014, which replaced the Insurance Law 2004. Prior to the NBS, the Ministry of Finance regulated the industry. The NBS brought changes in accordance with the Insurance Law 2004 and revoked licenses for many companies, reducing the number of insurers operating in Serbia.
