Key Findings

The top health & wellness technologies for 2015 across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry indicate innovations in diagnosis, prognosis and therapies for a plethora of diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic lifestyle diseases & neurological conditions.

Across all 10 technologies, convergence has a been a rather prominent development. Convergence between verticals like information technology services, microelectronics and sensors, and healthcare has resulted in robust, efficient and easily accessible medical information.

Some of the technologies that are currently present across Frost & Sullivan’s top health & wellness technologies have been under research for numerous years. However, due to more relaxed regulatory policies stemming from increased awareness of future implication, a more conducive environment for commercialization has emerged.

Therapeutic and diagnostics innovations have sprouted in the space of rare and autoimmune disorders. Though these represent a niche population, the price tags that are placed for these treatments represents a lucrative market potential for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

The major challenges that health and wellness innovations face are: lack of clinical trial participants resulting in poor clinical validity on therapeutics, long time to market phases and highly complex competitive landscape due to the constant presence of novel start ups.

Venture capitals and private investors are playing a more active role by investing copious amounts of money to develop therapeutics and diagnostics. Some of the areas garnering increasing interest have been stem cells and personal genomics
