The increasing share of diesel cars is one of the key reasons limiting electric vehicle market growth. The stringent emission norms are also being met with by diesel vehicles that are also cheaper than electric vehicles. The biggest challenge that prevails in the industry is that local Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are focusing on the export market more than the local market. This is mainly due to various factors such as high costs, lack of infrastructure, and adoption of diesel cars. OEMs are able to meet stringent emission norms due to implementation of small-sized diesel engines.
