What is Really Driving the Choice of a Cloud Service Provider?

In the past year, the percent of US businesses using cloud infrastructure services has tripled.2 That means three times as many businesses researched their options and chose at least one provider to handle their workloads. Furthermore, the number of additional businesses planning to adopt cloud infrastructure services in the next two years has doubled, after remaining steady for the previous three years. All those new-to-cloud businesses are currently doing their due diligence to select a provider.

What are they looking for in a provider? And once they make a decision, are they satisfied with their choices?

In this analysis, Stratecast looks at how IT decision-makers choose a cloud service provider, based on the 2014 Frost & Sullivan Cloud User Survey.3 We analyze responses to derive actual versus stated preferences, categorizing decision criteria by importance, for both public and private cloud services. We look at the cloud providers in use by our respondents, and consider what can be learned from their overall satisfaction levels.
